| Requirement #1 to get you through a cold, dark, wet Seattle winter? Coffee. Caffe Appassionatto is roasted locally and served in many of the fine Seattle cafe’s. Looks like Amazon only has three packs, but three bags of coffee for $20 isn’t bad and it’ll be just enough to last you through a Seattle weekend. | |
| Requirement #2 to get you through a nasty Seattle winter? A good book. Since this a blog about investing and personal finance, I had to think of a relevant read that I’ve partaken in lately. Jim Rogers is a wild guy and an excellent author. Jim and his fiance travel the world in a custom car, searching for the next great place to invest. Its a travel book blended with an investment book…can’t beat that! | |
| Beechers cheese is delicious. Made daily in our prized Pike Place Market, this cheese resembles a cheddar but offers a bit more bite. If you can’t buy it in person, I’m happy to see that Amazon can bring you and this cheese together. Its delicious. | |
| Alright, I have to be honest, I don’t own these. I’ve only slept on the knock off version from Costco but I can’t find a link to buy the ones from Costco so this is the best I can do. Its like sleeping in a fleece jacket, its awesome. Furnace on the fritz (mine has been on the fritz all winter)? No problem, these suckers are toasty! | |
| I picked up the first generation Zune. I know, I know, iPod is king but guess what, Zune is actually better! I bought the zune and was impressed with the giant screen, nice, straight forward controls, built in radio, wifi capabilities (can sync music to your computer when you walk in the door) and, my favorite feature, a $15/month Zune pass lets you download unlimited music every month. Sure, you don’t own the music but who really cares. The point is that I’m able to listen to anything I want and I can keep it for as long as I want as long as I pay $15/month. I hate monthly fees, but the number of crappy $15 cd’s I was buying easily justify the monthly cost. Zune’s pretty sweet. If you don’t have an iPod yet or your iPod broke or something, you should consider the Zune. It has its weaknesses, but it offers a lot of features that the iPod has been unable to offer thus far. | |
| I don’t actually own this jacket, but Arcteryx stuff is good quality and its highly recommended. If you don’t have a nice, waterproof jacket to wear in the winter in Seattle, you’re going to get wet. Bite the bullet, buy a really expensive yuppy jacket, look cool and stay dry. | |
| The Shins are great. Made uber-popular by the Garden State soundtrack, the Shins really blew up a few years ago. Things seemed to have calmed down a bit since back then but this is a great album to listen to while its pouring rain outside. If you bought a Zune and got the subscription you could download it for free but, hey, you probably have an iPod so you should just buy it instead. Its well worth the money. |
